Meadowhill Appraisal Well
|
The Meadowhill Appraisal Well was drilled on a former opencast coal mine operations yard, in the north east corner of the licence area and forms part of Composite Energy's 4 well appraisal programme, within Clackmannanshire Council area. The well was drilled using both the G55 and HH102 drilling rigs.
In this area the target gas-bearing coals are nearer the surface than in the centre of the Kincardine Basin, so a borehole was drilled to 900m. The primary purpose of the drilling this well was to drill and retrieve the core back to surface. Using the core taken, it is possible to assess the gas content and other characteristics of the coal, which make it possible, in part, to determine the potential for developing the resource.
This site`s proximity to the cut (coal face) of a former opencast coal mine, made it possible to gain a better understanding of the types of faulting and geological anomalies that exist in the licence area, aiding the process of locating and drilling wells.
At the end of drilling, this well was cemented and abandoned in accordance with the BERR and coal authority guidelines and the site restored to its former use as hard standing for vehicle parking.
