CO2 Storage Project

The company announced in March 2007 the start of a CO₂ storage project to evaluate the potential of using flue-gas injection as part of enhancing methane recovery. The project is co-funded by BG Group, Scottish Power and The Royal Bank of Scotland, with Strathclyde University, Glasgow and Imperial College, London undertaking the evaluation. This is a desktop study which over the next two years will consider the potential of storing CO₂ within the coal matrix.

If the desktop study is successful, the next step would be an in situ pilot test. There are a lot of elements to this exciting project that have to be explored and understood before it could become reality. However it cannot be ignored given the potential to reduce CO₂/flue gas emissions.
