Bandeath Appraisal Well

The Bandeath Appraisal Well was drilled on the former MOD ordnance storage facility adjacent to the River Forth and forms part of Composite Energy's 4 well appraisal programme. The site is located within the Stirling Council area and was drilled using the G55 drilling rig.

In this area the target gas bearing coals are nearer the surface than in the centre of the Kincardine Basin, so a borehole was drilled to 621m. The purpose of drilling this well was to drill and retrieve the core back to surface. Using the core taken, it is possible to assess the gas content and other characteristics of the coal, which make it possible, in part to determine the potential for developing the resource.

The other important part that this borehole played was to provide information which allows Composite Energy to understand whether gas is present in the coal uniformly across the licence area, thus allowing a better understanding of the potential resource in place.

At the end of drilling, this wellbore was cemented and abandoned in accordance with the DBERR and Coal Authority guidelines and the site restored to agricultural use.
